Social media marketing is a hot new industry, and the more you know about it, the better! A lot of people are making big bucks from their Facebook page or blog alone, but that’s just one way to do it. You might be surprised to know there is a (surprisingly) formal process for getting into social media marketing. It doesn’t have to be as expensive or complicated as you think either! We’ll get into that later on in the article. For now, let’s first identify what a social media marketer does:
Who Is a Social Media Marketer?
There are two types of people who “do” social media marketing: the ones who know how to do it and the ones who think they know. Most people fall into the second category, but if you really want to make it in this cut throat industry, there are some very strict rules you have to follow, or you’ll end up like everybody else.
In order for social media marketing to work it needs people dealing with each other on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. This means people have to think about and use social media, but it also means they have to deal with each other. To make that happen we need to provide a service. So what do those services look like?
Free Stuff You Get From Other People
The first type of social media marketing is the most popular one which is the free stuff you get from other people. You give a gift of some sort to someone such as an article, a video or even an email to their inbox.
But not every free thing should be treated as a gift – you have to know your market and what will work best for them. Free stuff can be very well received by some people and not at all by others, so use your social media marketing skills well or risk wasting valuable time on something that isn’t going to work for you.
If you’re a blogger then this is the easiest thing to do – every time you post something for free give it away on social media too. You’ll make more friends this way and start building up a fan base who will be interested when your new post comes out.
Social Media-Only Products
You’re going to have to consider making products just for social media if your blog or website doesn’t have much traffic coming from social networks. This is a potential dead-end, as you’ll have to give some stuff away to build up your social media profile.
On the other hand if you can spare the time writing an ebook you could consider selling that instead of giving it away. This is a great way to get your name out there for those who like your blog and think they could learn something from it. You might even decide to charge something for your ebook, in this case, it’s completely up to you.
As always, do more than one thing so people don’t get bored with you or stop following you altogether!
You may be thinking that selling things on social networks isn’t real marketing, but think again. If your product is good people will buy it simply to get it. Some people will buy more than one thing, even if they are inexpensive.
As of June 2021, over 91% of businesses in the US are using social media marketing to boost their exposure and get more customers.
Paid Social Media Marketing Services
This can be the tricky part – knowing where and how to advertise on these social networks is a skill in itself. Just having a Facebook page and Twitter account won’t do much if no one’s looking at them – it’s very important to deliver good content that will get other people talking about you too! This takes time, but there are those willing to pay for someone with those skills.
